Nous avons appris avec consternation et une profonde tristesse le décès de l’avocate Ebru Timtik, victime d’une grève de la faim qu’elle avait entamée pour réclamer un procès équitable.
La France rend hommage à l’engagement de cette avocate en faveur de l’État de droit et du respect des libertés fondamentales, notamment le droit de chacun à un procès équitable. Elle présente ses condoléances à la famille, aux proches et aux collègues d’Ebru Timtik.
La France appelle une nouvelle fois la Turquie à respecter ses engagements internationaux, notamment la Convention de sauvegarde des droits de l’Homme et des libertés fondamentales du Conseil de l’Europe. Elle continuera de suivre avec attention les procès menés contre l’ensemble des représentants de la société civile et des défenseurs des droits en Turquie. Elle demande en particulier que les droits de l’avocat Aytaç Ünsal, en grève de la faim depuis plus de 200 jours, soient respectés et que ce dernier soit rapidement libéré.

We were shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the death of the lawyer Ebru Timtik, victim of a hunger strike that she began to demand a fair trial.
France pays tribute to the engagement of this lawyer for the rule of law and for fundamental freedoms, including every person’s right to a fair trial, and extends its condolences to the family, colleagues and loved ones of Ebru Timtik.
France once again calls on Turkey to comply with its international commitments, including the Council of Europe Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. It will continue closely following the trials against all representatives of civil society and human rights defenders in Turkey, and particularly demands respect for the rights of the lawyer Aytaç Ünsal, on a hunger strike for more than 200 days, and his swift release.
